When STOMPer Yee tried a claw machine at Plaza Singapura yesterday (Feb 13) at about 4pm, he realised that the toys
in it were secured with hidden hooks. STOMP spoke to him over the phone, and he mentioned that after spending $8 at
the machine, he realised that the toys were attached to hooks. In response, a Prize Stage spokesperson said this:"I have been alerted to your post about the toys being hooked onto the base. "There is only 1 toy that can be caught
from the machine. That is the bait on the black cushion, beside the hole. "The rest of the toys like the CHIP and DALE are
for display and are all pinned down so that they will not be messed up. "The gist of the game is to catch the bait and you
can exchange for any prize displayed in the machine. This is all listed in the house rules beside the Joystick on every
machine in the shop. "If you could approach our staff during your play, I am sure that he will refund you the game credits
to play again with the correct bait. A video example from our customer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wwy36T0Mcn0"We welcome everyone down to the shop to take a look and judge for themselves. When STOMP spoke to STOMPer Yee,
he said that he could not see any signs to warn patrons that the machine was only for display. He said: "This was taken
at Prize Stage at Plaza Singapura. The metal hooks which attach the soft toys to each other and to the cloth lining the floor
of the machine makes it impossible to get those toys. "What's more, the hooks are carefully hidden from view and it took me
several tries before the full extent of how 'secured' the toys are became apparent. "I spent $8 as a result. "There were no signs
of any sort to warn customers that the machine was on display, or to warn people that the toys were hooked."There was only one staff member at the coin-dispensing machine. The place was quite empty at that time, so I did not see if
anyone else tried the machine. "I also did not see the point in approaching the staff to raise the issue, as I felt they would
already have known about it and it was pointless to start a confrontation. "For those intending to spend your money at this place,
I have only two words for you: Caveat emptor."
