The Navy SEAL who was responsible for the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden fears for the safety of his family, he revealed in an interview.
Anonymously, he spoke to Esquire magazine about the night he shot the Al-Qaeda leader three times in May 2011, reported AFP.
"He looked confused. And way taller than I was expecting,"
He and fellow commandos found Osama in the dark on the third floor of his Pakistani hideout. Osama had his hands on his youngest wife's shoulders and was "pushing her ahead" and there was an AK-47 nearby.
"I don't know if she's got a vest and she's being pushed to martyr them both. He's got a gun within reach. He's a threat. I need to get a head shot so he won't have a chance to clack himself off (blow himself up)," the commando said.
"In that second, I shot him, two times in the forehead. Bap! Bap! The second time as he's going down. He crumpled onto the floor in front of his bed and I hit him again, Bap! same place," he says.?
"He was dead. Not moving. His tongue was out."
Following the release of movies based on the raid like Zero Dark Thirty and Codename: Geronimo, the commando commented that the portrayal of the female CIA officer was accurate but some details were unrealistic.
The commando is now an unemployed civilian after retiring from the military, and he is nervous about potential revenge attacks on his family and how he would make a living as a civilian.
Although having revelled in the raid's success with zero SEAL casualties, his family now had to learn how to defend themselves against attackers and use a shotgun.
The anonymous 'Shooter' also does not qualify for a pension as he left after 16 years of service and not 20. A fellow Navy SEAL also commented, saying his family would be better off if he had been killed in combat.
