According to the latest survey by the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic¡¯s School of Business & Accountancy, most hawker food prices remained the same in 2012 compared to the previous year i.e. 2011, except for these 2 dishes:
The mode price of fishball noodles increased 20% from $2.50 in 2011 to $3.00 in 2012.
The mode price of mixed vegetable rice increased 16% from $2.50 in 2011 to $2.90 in 2012.
The mode price refers to the price most frequently charged by hawkers in the survey.
The survey was conducted in December last year and covered 541 hawker stalls, focusing on 5 common hawker foods:
chicken nasi briyani (no change in mode price C $4.50)
chicken rice (no change in mode price C $2.50)
plain roti prata (no change in mode price C $0.80)
fishball noodles (increased 20% to $3.00)
mixed vegetable rice (increased 16% to $2.90)
However, the survey showed that the percentage of hawkers selling chicken nasi briyani, chicken rice and plain roti prata at the mode price, decreased in 2012 compared to 2011.
A higher percentage of hawkers sold these three food items above the mode prices in 2012 compared to 2011. This indicates that there may be increases in mode prices for these 3 items in time to come.
