Welcome. :)

Just got my tdvl last month as well.

Most companies accept the result slip to be on the q for a taxi as a hirer. Except for only 1 company.....

Just need to pay registration fee and admin fee to be on q.

To start driving taxi, you will need the tdvl from lta, attend the respective company 1 or 2 day course, be it hirer or relief.

Daily rental -52. Not driving -20. If hirer not drive, i pay him $80 for whole driving. Fair?

For me, i'm doing relief at the moment too.

Company is CDG. I pay the hirer when i return the cab back to him, daily rental $56 (It's a 3yrs old cab,$112)
As i drive at night, i pay for the car wash daily $4 (But i'm asking those carpark ah neh to wash instead cos cheaper and save me time)
Fuel i pay $0.10/km (Actual price is about $0.12/km but since i wash the car, he discounted for me)
We do not have an agreement of "not driving", to my knowledge, if i do not drive, why should i pay?
If whole day at $80 if hirer is not driving, it's fair. But can you managed to drive whole day?

IMO, i think the amount is fair.

you never know when you need to rest or go for holiday.

say if he goes for 5 days holiday, do you think you can drive full for 5 days?

so the $20 is to compensate you the extra time you covering for his absent.

That's the requirement for permanent relief. IMHO, he is nice enough not to ask half price from you.

For example, if your agreement with him is 7 driving days a week, meaning you pay him $52 daily. If you are sick or you go for holiday, he only ask you to pay him $20 instead of $26. I assume the rental is double of $52, which is $104, and when you are not driving, he need to cover $84 while you pay him $20. If he can't drive for a day, you cover $80 while he adsorb $24. True enough that night shift driver need to wash the car but day shift drivers are taking care of the vehicle maintenance. Also, most hirer are willing to absorb the season parking by themselves.

Just imagine that if you are the hirer and your relief driver keep taking off days as when he like, and if the fee does not exist during the agreement, you have to absorb the full rental cost. This 'not driving' fee is to save guard the hirer from having an irresponsible relief driver. Of course, if you are uncomfortable with the requirements, you can negotiate with him further. If not, you can continue to look for another hirer. There is no standard practice or market requirement. It is all between the hirer & the relief.

Unless you have an agreement with your hirer that you only drives from Monday to Saturday, most probably you wouldn't need to pay for anything on sunday. For my case, I only drive from Monday to Friday and I do not need to pay anything for Saturday and Sunday, which is in the agreement before taking me as his permanent relief.

Ok. Thank you for sharing. He also mentioned i will pump the diesel and less the amount from the rental. Example i pump $35, i will pay him 52-35= 17. I blur ?? Think i will find out from him more abt the pumping of diesel. And i wanted to drive from mon to sat. But he wanted whole week.

Hi Hatan,

Yr comments abt deducting the pumping of diesel from the daily relief rental does not sound logical. If you drove and had to top up with $35 worth of diesel, you would need to pay for the diesel from your own pocket. He also wanted you to drive whole week and this sounds fair ....like what Rom said, the market is based on "willing buyer, willing seller" basis.....in other words, if you were to put yourself in the other party's shoes, would you accept the same deal? Thank you.

99.9% what your hirer means is that he will not refill the tank and you do the full tank refill before you hand over the taxi back to him. for example, let's say:

1 litre = 12km travelled & 1 litre = $1.15

hirer drove 360km = 30 litre = $34.50 worth of diesel

In this case, you only pay him $52 - $34.50 = $17.50

This is excluding your own usage of diesel.

Now If say, Hatan use the same amount of diesel during his shift.. $34.50 for diesel...

so total, what Hatan has fork out will be:-

Diesel $34.50 x 2 = $69 + $17.50(to hirer) = $86.50?? correct?

ok, in order not to make things looks complicated, diesel cost is by own usage. rental is rental. anything other than that has to pay on your own. what the hirer did is just to offset his fuel usage amount.

next, let's take the following as an example for your own expenditure per night:

rental = $52
fuel cost = $30
gantry cost = $3 (sometimes you may need to go into CBD area to find pax with empty car)
car wash = $4
Total = $89

$89 is based on your very own usage. In the previous reply, what ever amount you top up for your hirer, it will be offset from the rental fee, so it's back to square one. Is it a better way of explanation? hehe

yup, that's correct. of course, it will most probably based on the taxi company's kiosk diesel price. So, even if you pump diesel at outside kiosk like shell or caltex, the price difference shall be absorb by you, not the hirer.

Hi, thank you for all the prompt help. I found an other hirer and the term and condition is okay. Have been driving for 6 nights. I need to drive more to be more familliar with all the small road.
