Need some advice, my current take home pay is about $1800 after CPF. Am thinking of taking up full time taxi driving.
Read from Newspapers that the current market demand for taxis have been affected by the economical slowdown. I would like to find out will I be able to earn more that what I am currently earning?
All response and advise are greatly appreciated.

$1800 take home means salary approx $2300, employer contributes $350 monthly for you as well. Got holiday, annual leave and bonus.... etc. FT taxi income may be similar but no holiday, take personal urgent leave or sick can't drive also need to pay rental, bad mood drive easy kena accident... (touch wood).

Its good to give you the workings as to how bros here derive at whatever figure
This figures listed below is just a guideline
Income
Normal hours Newbies - 17 ~ 20 an hour Mid Experience - 22 ~ 25 an hour Lao Chiao - 28 ~ 30 an hour
Peak Hours Newbies - 22 ~ 25 an hour Mid Experience - 28 ~ 32 an hour Lao Chiao - 35 ~ 40 an hour
Bad hours can be as low as 5 ~ 10 an hour
Nonproductive hours(doing God Knows What !) 0 an hour
Cost Rental (sonata) 104 full day (2 shifts) , 52 half day (1 shift) (crown) - different age differece price, for these exercise, I leave this option out cos most newbies would prefer auto due to my observation Diesel - 1 shift (12 hours) abt 30 ~ 35 dep on mileage covered 2 shifts 50 ~ 60 (you can't possibly drive 24 hours can you ?) Wash vehicle 3 ~4 or FOC depends on who washes it Parking - I leave this out , but you must know to or be good to siam all parking fines ERP est 5 for 1 shift 10 for 2 shifts (depend on timing you chose to drive) Others - makan , ciggies, kopi, I leave these out
If you drive 1 shift, normally we factor 11 hours as calculation, cos 1 hr need to wash vehicle pump diesel handover to hirer / relief Let's assume you manage to achieve 2 peak hrs, 4 normal hours 2 bad hours 1 nonproductive hour, 1 hour lunch / dinner and finally 1 hour Kopi (if you join bros here ) So income work out to be 140.00 less cost abt 90.00 Total income for the day is 50.00 This is calculation for newbies, smelly smelly oso should get the above (disclaimer - if you can't achieve the above, don't blame me hor ) Experience bros need not say lar, they have their own formula
2 shift depending on how good luck (as in hardworking) you are, pls note that you can't possibily drive 24 hour , do your own sums
No one can warrant you definite income other than if you are under employment whereby you would enjoy regular Working hours, CPF, Pay Leaves, Medical Leave, Medical care etc. The set back may be the lack of freedom.
Taxi driving require a lot of focus and hard work as to make a decent income and living you must be driving the "X" number of hours as bare minimum since the first 3 or 5~6 hours that you drive are for paying to the company for the rental and the next 1 hours or so are for paying for the fuel and you meals. Then your income starts to kick in but....that will also depend on if you are experience, your sense and your luck.
If you go through topics in our forum you would have pick up a lot more information good and bad of the trade.
Happy serving and look forward to hear more from you.
