Dear mzs499, don't juz look at the amt of rental u have to pay, there are more areas to consider besides rental. An important point is cost of diesel and convenience of getting diesel becoz u need to top up ur tank everyday. Others worth considering are whether u r into taking booking jobs, current and advance; maintenance and servicing and so on. Hope this little advise will help. Cheers and good luck.

I am new here, this is my 1st post. I have read some of the posts here and find it very helpful.
I have 1 question and hope to get some advise here.
I have just got my TVL and intend to rent a taxi from SMRT, the cheapest rental is $70 for a manual Nissan Cedric and the waiting time is unknow.
I would like to know what is the pros and cons of renting this old taxi. All advice is highly appreciated.

the pro of old taxi is cheaper rent,
spare part easier to get, and cheaper too..
but the cons are
check the mileage, and servicing records if possible for disadvantages listed below, insist on a test drive, preferably with friend who had experience with Cedric, cos these cab are due to scraped soon...
heavier fuel consumption which can eat into your profit, if car is neglected, and also due to mechanical wear and tear, noisy engine, noisy transmission, it will get into your nerve when driving prolong hours,
Thanks for all the advices. Will be collecting the taxi on 29/7. Anything to check when collection? Will try the cedric for sometime and then decide to change or not.
