commuters_forced_to_board_on_road-thumbnail.jpg

STOMPer Nigel says this driver parked at a bus bay at Hougang Street 91 for over an hour on Feb 16, forcing pedestrians to board the bus on the road.

Enforcement officers were on the scene shortly to handle the situation. The STOMPer wrote: "The vehicle was illegally parked at the bus bay along

Hougang Street 91 as early as 8am till 9:30am on Feb 16, before the driver eventually returned to remove the vehicle.

"It caused heavy congestion on the 2 lane road as busses had to pick-up and alight passengers along the road instead.

"2 Cisco officers and 2 LTA officers were at the scene directing the traffic and issued summons to the driver before he left."

Cyclist dies after accident with bus on Tuas slip road

A cyclist was pronounced dead at the National University of Hospital (NUH) after he was involved in an accident with a bus on a slip road leading to Jurong Pier Road on Tuesday morning.

A netizen, who only wanted to be known as Kee Tan, had alerted citizen journalism website Stomp to the accident in an email today.

The Police confirmed that the cyclist had subsequently succumbed to his injuries and died after being conveyed to the hospital.

The spokesperson said:

""Police received a call today (Feb 19) at about 7.56am, requesting for assistance along Tuas slip road into Jurong Pier Road near lampost 64.

"Upon Police's arrival, it was established that an accident between a bus and a cyclist had occurred.

"The male cyclist was conveyed unconscious to NUH, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

"Police investigations are ongoing."

In his report to Stomp, Kee Tan said:

"The bus was travelling towards Jurong Island through the AYE and Jurong Pier Road. I was on the bus then.

"When the driver of the bus turned left into Jurong Pier Road, we heard the bus 'climbing up' over something, like a road divider, on the right side.

"The bus had dragged a bicycle underneath it for a few meters before stopping.

"When we stepped off the bus, the cyclist was injured but still alive and breathing but he went unconscious after a couple of minutes.

"An ambulance was called and arrived about 15 minutes later. Paramedics attempted to use CPR and their medical equipment to revive him at the site but in vain.

"He was then immediately transferred on the ambulance and moved on to hospital."

He said he did not see any other casualties and that the accident involved a bus bearing the number 715.

Little girl nearly crushed after falling from bike

sendtip.gif

A little girl slid off a motorbike and fell onto the road in the path of a car, but was only grazed by a wheel.

Footage of her fall was captured by a traffic camera in Jinhua, China.

The video shows the bike she was travelling on stopping between two cars. The girl suddenly falls sideways

onto the road, seemingly into the path of the car. Amazingly, she is left unharmed as the car moves past, its

wheels doing little more than grazing her. The incident serves as a clear warning to be extra mindful of

young children while travelling on the roads, as they tire easily and may become distracted.

Driver suffered burns to his leg after white Proton Saga caught fire on Keppel Road

Fire fighters spent about 10 minutes putting out the fire using two jets. The male driver of the vehicle, who is believed to be about 40-years-old, suffered

slight burns to his right calf. Here's an account of an earlier eye-witness report posted on Stomp: A Stomp contributor Christina saw this car that had

(March 23) at around 7.45pm, and was near VivoCity when I saw this car on fire," said Christina. "I, however, did not see anyone in the car or around the car."

"A fire truck arrived just when I was leaving," she added.

Caught on camera: Driver refuses to give way to ambulance

sendtip.gif

SINGAPORE - A driver of a blue Honda was captured on video refusing to give way to an ambulance, despite the ambulance's blaring siren and flashing red lights.

The video was taken on Mar 14, and uploaded to YouTube a day later. It then went viral on the Internet. In the video, a blue Honda car is seen staying on the

right lane in front of an ambulance. Even as the two vehicles drove down the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), the blue Honda stayed in front of the ambulance and

did not give way. Later, the ambulance driver slowly filtered left and edged out to the neighbouring lane. The ambulance driver then wound down the window

and started gesturing towards the driver. He then drove off rapidly after that. A Stomp contributor said what the driver did was illegal, according to the Public Order Act.

The contributor wrote: "Under the Public Order Act, Chapter 257A, Part II: Public assemblies and processions. #18 Obstruction to free passage of any ambulance

states that the person shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding

6 months or to both." The video's YouTube caption read: "This blue Honda Airwave simply refused to give way to an ambulance, despite the persistent sirens, lights

and high beams. "The ambulance had to force its way through on the left eventually." Netizens have expressed outrage at the actions of the driver of the blue Honda.

Some asked whether there was a person in need of medical help on board the ambulance, while others said the driver should be punished.

Heavy vehicle claims another life

sendtip.gif

SINGAPORE - The death of a 73-year-old motorcyclist after he was hit by a lorry on Monday has made it at least nine fatalities involving heavy vehicles

in the last three months, renewing calls for action. Tampines GRC MP Baey Yam Keng on Tuesday urged more training for drivers given that heavy vehicles

are harder to control in emergencies and have wider blind spots. He also highlighted to The Straits Times the "culture of drivers" of heavy vehicles, who

are often paid per delivery. "They are rushing for time to finish a job as fast as possible; every trip is money to them," he said. The latest accident took

place on Tuas Crescent towards Tuas West Drive. It is not known how the collision happened, but the Shin Min Daily News reported that Mr Buman Abdullah,

a delivery man, suffered head injuries. The police received a call at 4.45pm, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The victim's 49-year-old

son-in-law, who was at the morgue on Tuesday's morning, told the paper that his family had urged the motorcyclist to stop working because of his age,

but the latter refused. He added that the victim had been riding a motorcycle for over a decade, and had not been involved in any major accident.

The police said the lorry driver is assisting with investigations. Since the deaths in January of two brothers, aged seven and 13, after they were hit by

a cement mixer in Tampines, the spotlight has been focused on heavy vehicles plying Singapore's roads.
