Okay, looks like we have 2 camps here. First one is TU's side that says that humans are more important than stupid rules. The other is the "normal" Singaporean that knows how the system works and is resigned to fate and destiny.
Me, I'm tired. I've gone thru it all before. Prior to last year, I had never faced any insurance "Excess". Always I win because it is clear-cut 100% in my favour. But November last year I kena side-swipe from another TD and have to pay $1000. This year in April or May I kena hit by a 77-yr-old on the left rear. Also, I have to pay $1000. This time, if I lose, I have to give back the taxi. Call it sway or whatever.
So you can understand that this is a big deal for me.
Didn't know you had two yellow cards already..I am just giving my opinion only on the likely outcome. Hope you are not offended.
Can understand how you feel. If I am a private car owner, I will know how to engage a lawyer to make a claim. But, for TDs, not sure if we can have our say or the Company is the judge.
Wah taxiuncle, suddenly I realised I became promoted to Veteran member leh, how come ah? I not so active what. Izzit just bcos I Ah Lau ? I still look young you know.

No lah, you are okay, man. If I am a smoker, I will surely accept your cigarette... even if you are very much under-aged, who cares. Hahaha.
IMHO, if they just blindly based on the road markings, you are in the wrong BUT if you can only make a right turn due to the one way road ahead, this is debatable & my guess is that you are in a bigger favor situation. All the best to you ^_^
So far, I've been following this forum for one and a half months and I must say it's quite a friendly place. I appreciate all the comments posted and I think we're all more or less on the same page now on this unfortunate incident of mine. My past 2 cases, I simply paid up under protest and without a fight. This time it is quite critical for me to pursue it further. Based on past experience, I guess it is agreed that my chances are 50/50 - although some say slim and others are more optimistic.
On hindsight, if the two parties involved were TDs, I'm sure we would have shook hands and parted amicably. My damage is just a superficial surface scratch. The other looks even better off since my colour came off and landed on his.
Anyway, I'm thinking of writing to LTA for some clarifications on the road markings at the particular spot. May I ask members which is the best channel avail (email address would be helpful). Is there a special dept catering to such requests ?
I have no idea how this will conclude, but should I overcome and win this case, drinks are on me - coffee, tea and me included.
Cheers everyone !
p/s This is a live lesson for newbies. Pay attention, I think we can all learn something from this.
see, where is the damage on your vehicle? real right side?
the damage of the FT's vehicle? front left side?
so who got the control? The FT could have avoided this accident should he exercise road safety rules.
who was knocking on who? The FT knock you with the front left onto your rear right which you could
not avoid at all. obviously, the FT was driving WITHOUT observing the road condition.
(there's a chapter of this offence and its commonly used by the TP)
i think you should fight on and denial any claims from the FT. in fact, you should claim him.
ultimately, (touch wood) even if you lost, you lost only $1k at most.
Hi Tu,
You mean after reporting the case you still have a say and fight the case.
This is new to me. Please share your experience. Anybody else ?
Hi LB,
yes, insurers are allowed to defend their case if is 50/50 kind of scenario. most of time, drivers like to twist story in their report. so, there would be two
very different scenario to judge. that's when the insurance company would raise issue with their respective insurer to seek address. one party has to
admit fault and take responsibility or the case would has to be seek judgement from the court. insurance companies want to cut down paper works and costs
usually, they would get advice from surveyor, get one unfortunate party (advice to) admit fault and move-on. for straight forward cases like kiss the butt of
the car in front, the insurance company would just make payment and close the case. dont waste time.
for minor accident, the dent and damages of a vehicle would show who are more liable. like who knock onto who, who has the control to avoid it from
happening and etc. even 50/50 chance to win is also better than to bear full responsibility.
a fren of mine from trans-cab knock onto the side (right rear passenger door) of a car driven by a lady who was trying to switch into his lane. my fren
claimed in his report that the car was switching lane too suddenly and he didnt have enough time to react. the lady claimed in her report that she
signals and switch only when the lane was clear. 2 stories. the case was thrown to the court. verdict, both bear 50/50 responsibility, each repairs
Just a little update on the status. Recently, I passed by Marina View and I realised now that they are probably going to open up the "dead-end" to connect to Central Boulevard. Across the other side of Central Boulevard is the new Downtown Line MRT station and further on is the continuation of Marina View which is alongside Asia Square. In fact, the straight arrow is now added to the right turn arrow just before the bend towards Marina Bay Suites and One Raffles Quay. This explains the straight arrow.
So far, the FT seems to have cooled off. No letter yet from the insurance or my taxi company. Hope that it remains that way.

no news is good news!
if you found the arrow (road marking) is changed by LTA to your favor, it means the arrow then was a mistake undetected by LTA.

you should have a case to fight.
Uh, I'm not sure if you understood me correctly. The new straight arrow was added on recently (I presume) to prepare for the opening of the "dead-end" into a through road - connecting to Central Boulevard and also perhaps to Asia Square (continuation of Marina View). The road appears to have been resurfaced too. I'm not sure if this new development is in my favour ???

Many thanks for your input though.
