Alternatively, get a list of hirers looking for reliefs from your taxi company. CDG & SMRT are quite prompt in this matter.
Third option, which I did it before, write on many pieces of paper, stating your name & contact, shift preference, & start to go to carparks nearby your house and put on their windscreen. If they are looking for reliefs, usually they'll call you back quite fast, Of course, choose the time to put paper wisely. You don't go put paper after mid-night as high chance these taxi are there because they are out in the day time & rest at night, if you are looking to drive day shift.
If you are looking for one urgently, you can accept any hirer living slightly further from your house. You can opt to take bicycle/bus/MRT/walk/taxi during changing shifts. There is no contract or obligation, so you can change any time after you have found another hirer nearer to you, by giving your present hirer decent period of notification as stated when he accepted you as his relief.
As for your timing for your family, no one else except yourself can decide that for you. There are many taxi drivers on night shift who also don't get to see their family members. Some of them choose to take off on weekdays, some on weekends, etc. For me, I choose to start late after my wife knock off from her work, have dinner with her then I start. That is already at least 1.5 hours after my shift start. lol
Discuss with your wife about your timing and work out the best suitable schedule for you & your family. Sad to say that at many times, things don't go along your way but at least try your best. all the best ^_^
get a taxi yourself with low rental and be an OMO.
cab like Honda FIT or Toyota Crown are around $80+, you can drive anytime you want and 2 hours more per day will cover what you could have pay as a relief.
however, Eunos cycle all the way to Tanjong Rhu are no joke, as Day shift are scarce.
So what time do you actually begin your Night shift, Rom?
Just have a little bit more patience. Drive night shift for the time being and continue to look for a day shift taxi available. What TU suggested to you above is Prime Taxi, which you may give it a consideration too.
Hope the Taxi Company will not be coming too hard on the 250km for drivers. Heard Transcab started to issue warning to OMO...haiz every trade is so tough in SG.
Bear in mind, 250km an average per day is applicable for each vehicle, not individual driver. Meaning day shift driver hit 100km, night driver hit at least 150km, you are safe. As for the requirement to be OTR during day & night peak hours, you also do not have problem at all if there are both hirer & relief drivers for each vehicle.
Story aside, if day shift drivers cannot hit at least 150km & night shift drivers not more than 200km, then maybe they are drving for leisure? haha just joking. :p
For night shift, beside city (i.e., bars, hotels), may I know where are the hotspots and timing ?
Thanks
On normal weekdays like Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, there is not really much "hot spot". Outside the city, you are on your luck. Downlaod apps like Cabs@Changi & SG Flight Info for Changi Airport Arrival details to keep track if you can go Q there.
Learn more about pubs & clubbing area timing like Parklane daily at 3~3.30am, Zouk opening days & pax out after 4am, etc. Pubs like Zouk & KYO may not open everyday so don't try when they are close.
Outside city are mostly 24 hours eatery & cinemas but you can also see many taxi are queuing there too. Same for cinemas, they do not have mid-night show everyday, so some people may want to find out from website. SAFRA also can try. Opening hours also varies for weekdays, weekends & public holidays. Learn as you drive along. Cheers
Thanks Rom for your sharing.. are u still OTR as usual? weekdays evening till morn?
Nope. My last day with Transcab was 1st feb morning. Been busy with personal stuff and will be travelling to & fro malaysia very frequent in Feb & March, so earliest back otr will be early april...
