Congrats. Yes, need to apply if you have decided on the taxi company. Yes, need to go thru MDT and taximeter course. For CDG, need to do a short Auto trans practical run as well.
Especially the Module 3 & Module 4. Searching for roads and landmarks in the street directory and the 40 routes.
1 hour for 50 questions which requires you to flip the street directory in & out is definitely not enough.. a lot of my course mates cant complete even half of it in time.
the 40 routes are very tricky also .. some answers are 99% same .. i rem 1 question where the difference in answers are "Ten Mile Flyover" & "Seven Mile Flyover".
Module 1 & 2 almost straight forward but i panicked when there are questions which require you to answer what are the penalties for certain offences.. 3 or 4 questions regarding those which i did not study much.
And there was 1 question which stucked with me .. can a taxi driver use a passenger cashcard to pass over gantry ?

Thanks!
Is there a difference in applying to be relief and super relief ? Do I need to declare up front when i sign up?
I'm thinking more flexibility in what i want to do
relief is regular relief, super relief is PT relief driver only or NO regular cab (hirer) to drive for. just ad hoc basis.
the deposit amount is the same for both, so its optional whether to declare or not.

I answered Yes.
Hey yeah, I am also a noob waiting to go for checkup. I will be interested to know the answer for that as well?!! :P Good question (can a taxi driver use a passenger cashcard to pass over gantry )...
Can a taxi driver use a passenger cashcard to pass over gantry? My answer is no. Reasons are:
1. If there is a ERP violation due to faulty cashcard or insufficient value, who is responsible?
2. Although pax pays for ERP, the charges are computed in the total fare. Also, if pax then pays by card, there is a 10% service fee of the total fare. If the driver uses a pax cashcard, he needs to deduct from total fare and the charges becomes complicated.
3. If the cashcard gets damaged who will be responsible?
We as TDs should not use any property belonging to our pax in the course of carrying out our work. There will be a question of liability should anything happen.
As pointed out by Taxilim, the ERP is automatically added to the fare total in the MDT at the end of the journey. (I'm not sure if this is the case for all the MDTs of the various Taxi Operators.) This will give rise to the possibility that the customer may be double-charged since the ERP fee is already deducted from the passenger's cash card and you collect the total fare as shown on the MDT.
Also, as pointed out, problems with the passenger's cash card adds more complications. For example, if the ERP fee is not successfully deducted when passing under the gantry, for whatever reason, the taxi-driver will have to pay an additional admin fee imposed by LTA. A dispute may ensue between driver and passenger over who is to bear the penalty. You may also forget to return the cashcard to the passenger.
